Piano and Guitar Teacher
Musicologie Certified: Level M2
Caroline Smith is a board-certified music therapist, and a graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Additionally, she holds a BM and an MA in music therapy from the University of Dayton and Saint Mary of the Woods College respectively. While at Spelman, she was in the glee club for four years, and sung in many student recitals at both Spelman and Morehouse College. Caroline’s principal instrument is voice, but she started taking piano and guitar lessons in college and has been playing for 12 years.
Caroline has always had a love for the piano for as long as she can remember. Anytime there was a piano around, she simply had to go and play on it. Her love and passion for the instrument is still just as strong decades later. It is her highest priority to help students develop a passion for their instrument. In her role as a music therapist, she has worked with children and adults on the autism spectrum for the past 8 years doing both music therapy and adaptive lessons. This important work has instilled the value in her that if students don’t learn the way we teach, we have to teach the way they learn.
Caroline believes in making lessons fun! She loves to play games, use off the bench activities, find motivating popular songs to learn, and do whatever it takes to help the student feel successful and motivated to continue to grow on their instrument.
