Hi, I’m Kay Barker, Musicologie’s Chief Education Officer, and I’m here to answer a few of the common questions we get from folks considering music lessons. Choosing a music school is an important decision, and we want to make sure you feel confident about what we offer and how our lessons work.

Q: Do I need to have an instrument at home?
Yes, having an instrument at home is ideal. Practicing between lessons is essential for making progress, and having access to an instrument helps reinforce what’s learned each week. If you’re unsure where to start with purchasing or renting, we can help guide you toward affordable, quality options.

Q: How are lessons structured?
Our lessons are typically 30 to 60 minutes long, depending on age, skill level, and goals. We tailor the lesson length to each student, to make sure each lesson is effective and engaging. Musicologie teachers create lesson plans that balance technical skills, music theory, and fun activities to keep students motivated and inspired.

Q: Do you offer performance opportunities?
Yes, we believe performance is an important part of learning music! We regularly host concerts, open mics, and other events that give students a chance to share their progress and gain confidence in a supportive environment. Performances are optional, of course, but many students find them rewarding and a great way to celebrate their hard work.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions! At Musicologie, we’re here to make music lessons inspiring, convenient, and enjoyable for every student. If you have more questions or would like to learn more, just reach out—we’re excited to help you get started!
